“Her Strength”

141 5th St NW, Albuquerque, NM 87102

I was commissioned by the New Mexico United Soccer League to create “Her Strength” which celebrates the women fan base. The model is in the “Rosie the Riveter” pose but instead the model is a women of color, reflecting and representing our community. I thought it was very important to shine light on  the women fanbase because we are not typically recognized in sports, but I wanted to acknowledge that we are a fundamental contributor and strong force in making the game thrive.

The upside down triangles behind her represent the sacred feminine. There are also four variations of the triangle pattern; the weave conveys the hand in the creation of one's life, the leaves imply growth, the dots are the self and lines are the connection from below to above. The colors pink, turquoise, yellow and green tie in with the unique connection between the arts, specifically Meow Wolf and our United sports team!

I often paint Cactus flowers because they are local to our land and resemble the resilience and beauty of our New Mexican women and people in general and how we able to flourish in the desert or despite all odds.
