‘Frida’

Tin Can Alley, ABQ, NM

‘Frida” was created as a cut out mural for Tin Can Alley in February 2020. This mural speaks to the transformational aspect of art. The butterfly wings imply this as well as tapping into the fact that art moves us. Frida is seen with the agave and poppy flower blossoming from her crown illustrating that the most potent drug is in the creation of art. With her eyes closed and third eye open we are shown that creativity is first seen and cultivated by connecting within.

I’ve always wanted to paint Frida Kahlo. My mother introduced me to her at nine years old and I’ve been obsessed with her as a person and her work ever since.  It felt wonderful to have the opportunity to paint her for this project.
